Protecting Mother monument in Cheboksary
Opened in Cheboksary on May 9, 2003 Monument to the Protecting Mother quickly became a symbol of Cheboksary, the capital of the Chuvash Republic, but of the entire republic as a whole. Noteworthy, the height of the statue is greater than all previously created in Chuvashia monuments, as together with the pedestal it is 46 meters. And taking into account the height of the mound – it towers 57 meters over the Gulf of Cheboksary. On the plate, attached at the bottom of the pedestal, written in two languages (Russian and Chivash) phrase “Blessed are my children, who live in peace and love”.
Meanwhile, the original initiative to install a monument to a woman in national costume in the city of Cheboksary, they say, belongs to Sergei Alexandrovich Sergeyev (public figure in Cheboksary). In addition, president of Chuvashia Nikolai Fyodorov eagerly supported the idea. Besides, he said in one of the interviews, “I saw my mother in a dream – she was standing on the shore of the bay, and this inspired me to perpetuate the memory of all mothers of Chuvashia …”. According to the plan that came out of sleep, the bronze statue was to represent the image of the Chuvash Protecting mother, defender, keeper and continuer of family and history.
Thus, to turn a dream of the president into a reality entrusted to sculptor Vladimir Porfirevich Nagornov, author of numerous monuments of Cheboksary. In addition, on this monument he worked in collaboration with Academician AA Trofimov (Scientific Consultant), and architects V.A. Filatov, Y.M. Novoselov and AB Oreshnikov.
