Fishermen monuments reveal stories

Monument “Fishermen” – the original sculpture, installed in 1991 on the shore of the Petrozavodsk bay of Lake Onega, Petrozavodsk. Author of the composition – sculptor Rafael Consuegra from the twin city of Duluth, Minnesota, USA. Rafael Consuegra was directly involved in the installation and welding of structures that have been made on the Petrozavodsk machine plant. According to the author, the composition of two fishermen with the net should become a symbol of the joint Russian-American creative labor. It should be noted, it was the difficult year of the collapse of the USSR. At first, residents of Petrozavodsk reacted skeptically to the present, as the fishermen seemed weird and even suspicious to them. In addition, made of metal rods fishermen, and especially the net in their hands looked like a spy antenna …

Fortunately, time has shown the sincerity of intentions of the authors of the monument, and “fishermen” have become one of the most visited sights of the city.

Village at Lake Halamnaay in Tattinsky ulus (region) is an attraction for the whole of Yakutia. And it is one of the statues of literary characters of Plato Oiunsky. The figure of the “Boy-fisherman at the lake” by famous sculptor Vasily Sivtsev portrays the boy of the late nineteenth century, trying to catch the fish with the net to provide food for schooling. The sculptor showed a great desire of Yakut children to learn. It has become the local tradition to greet school graduates at this monument. Sosnogorsk citizens and guests can see this amateur fisherman, enthusiastically walking with an excellent catch. According to the sculptor and blacksmith Mikhail Sosin, it was the idea of ​​local businessman Kamo Navasardyan. A Fisherman walking with an excellent catch is a business symbol. This sculpture has become another highlight of Sosnogorsk. Here walk locals, who love to be photographed next to this wonderful fisherman. Why this fisherman fell into the pond from the bridge – no one remembers … The monument is located at the sports and recreation complex “Tavern” in the vicinity of the town of Zvenigorod, 60 km from the Moscow Ring Road. By the way, in the pond in the summer you can catch the bait trout, and sturgeon.
