Monument to a sailor and a soldier in Sevastopol

The project of the monument appeared in 1972, and the monument was officially opened in 2007. It took 35 years to build it. The composition of the sculpture was changed and revised several times. Initially, it was planned to make a memorial complex with a museum, a monument and an eternal flame.
Construction began in 1981. And seven years later, in 1988, due to perestroika and the loss of the allocated money, the work was frozen. In 1990, the city raised the issue of demolishing the almost finished monument. But the locals came to his defense.
The construction of the museum complex was completed in 2007. The monument was opened on May 8. The date was chosen symbolic, a solemn event was held on the eve of Victory Day.
