The idea to erect a monument to him was born in his homeland, in Vladimir, in the fall of 2014, when the 100th anniversary of his birth was celebrated. The competition “The Voice of History. The Voice of Victory” was announced, for which 36 applications were received. The project of the Vladimir sculptor Igor Chernoglazov and the architect Yevgeny Usenko won in this competition.

The monument is a reconstruction of a scene on the streets of the rear of Vladimir during the Great Patriotic War. Grandfather and grandson listen to Levitan’s voice, sounding and loudspeaker. The monument was solemnly opened on May 7, 2015, on the eve of the 70th anniversary of the great victory, which Yuri Levitan reported to the whole country.

The loudspeaker (made in St. Petersburg) is not decorative. According to the authors’ idea, everyone can listen to Levitan’s voice for this you need to approach the monument a few meters, bring your smartphone to the QR code, click on it and, having gone to the site, select the desired fragment. But now it does not work either because of the numerous complaints of local residents, who had to listen to Levitan around the clock, or the vandals broke everything.

This monument is a rather rare case: the person to whom it is dedicated is absent on the monument itself. And this is quite symbolic for a long time, few people knew what Yuri Levitan looked like, because by Stalin’s personal order, his appearance was classified, and he himself was guarded around the clock by NKVD agents with orders to use weapons when the slightest danger arose.
