On 2/7 Mishina driveway in the city of Serpukhov in 2017, on the site of the old Sennaya Square, the “Fair” sculptural composition was opened. The old atmosphere has been recreated. On the wall of the house appeared graffiti with views of the old Serpukhov, made by artists S. Salin, M. Demchenko, I. Demchenko. and then bronze figures were installed, depicting representatives of different classes living in the city at that time.

Fairs in Serpukhov were held 4 times a year.

She was especially lively on Easter. In addition, the auctions were held every week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and people came here from the nearest cities and counties.

The square came to life. Here one could buy fabrics (broadcloth, silk fabrics), products of local artisans and goods of large Moscow firms, as well as overseas spices. Carts of dried apples, onions, etc. were standing. The fair was buzzing and noisy, walking in booths, taverns and taverns.

Such a case was described in 1849, when an official, the chief for the management of communications and public buildings, passed through the city. He could not get through the square, although there were already stone trading rows and two-story houses with shops on the ground floor around the perimeter, but many of them were empty. All trade went from wooden benches, canvas chests, booths and just from carts. The governor was ordered to take urgent measures. The area was cleared and landscaped. They even laid out squares in the corners.

He has repeatedly created monuments for the city of Serpukhov.

The first of the art projects to appear on the square was a bronze cat, and then a dog, a shoe shiner and a peasant woman with a goose were installed.

A little later, sculptures of a lottery dealer, a policeman, a watchmaker and an industrialist’s family appeared.

All the characters in this sculptural composition look very authentic, you can see the details of old clothes. An excellent background for this composition was a wall painted to resemble an old market with stalls and goods.

The street sculpture was designed by Ilya Dyukov so that people could be photographed next to it. The size of the sculpture is not taller than a human. With the help of such art objects, the townspeople and guests of Serpukhov can learn about the past.
