Monument to Vasily Terkin
The town of Orekhovo-Zuevo near Moscow attracts tourists not only with its interesting name. There are many places with great views, beautiful temples and, of course, a lot of sights, against which excellent memorable pictures are obtained.
One of these sights is the sculpture of Vasily Terkin, a famous soldier with an accordion. This literary character became the protagonist of the popular poem of the same name, written by Alexander Tvardovsky. It reveals a description of the life of a simple front-line soldier who went through all the hardships of wartime.
In Orekhovo-Zuevo, the monument to Vasily Terkin appeared relatively recently. The monument, erected on Central Boulevard, was solemnly opened in 2009, timed to coincide with the celebration of the city’s day. Currently, the gilded sculpture of an accordion player has become the first and so far the only monument in the city dedicated to a literary character. A year after the installation of the sculpture by Vasily Terkin, it was supplemented with a commemorative plaque.
Interestingly enough, the monument can have another dedication. The second hero is one of the local residents – accordion player Sergei Boriskin.
