On one of the longest squares in Leuven, “Old Market Square”, there is an unusual bronze monument – the Kotmadam monument. A young slender girl is casually spread out on the bench and pensively looks into the distance. This is the kind of landlady that every student who rented a room in Oude Markt has dreamed of. Nearby is the Catholic University of Leuven.

But, unfortunately, more often than not, students came across strict elderly ladies who prepared food for them and did not forget to keep discipline and order. And the coveted image of a romantic young beauty was immortalized by the sculptor Fred Bellefroid in 1985.

Today the Ode Markt is considered the “Longest Bar in Europe”, as more than 30 different bars are lined up along the perimeter of the square. And most tourists, walking around the square, do not miss the opportunity to take a picture with a bronze young lady.
